Stuart competencies

Stuart Core therapy competences:

My Core competencies are therapy models which I am trained and accredited in as stand alone competences. In other words I am accredited in these, each in their own right. This is part of my multi modal practice (multiple models, each accredited). The professional bodies responsible for each modal are indicated.

We do not provide any form of conversion therapy. We are an inclusive provider, and we will work with you over the therapy process to ensure we are the clinically appropriate service for your needs and that working with your needs will be within our competency, and match our service specialisms

My professional registrations and registration with PSA (Professional Standards Authority Accredited Registers) can be found HERE

Main Service: Traumatology and Neuro Divergence informed therapy.

This service is provided under the international guidance and standards of the APA (American Psychological Association), and two leading organisations: The (Arizona) Trauma Institute International, and Evergreen Certifications.  General therapy ethics and standards are ensured by the UK based NACHP (National Association of Counsellors, Hypnotherapists and Psychotherapists), ACCPH (Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists & Hypnotherapists) and CTHA (Complementary Therapists Association). There are no PSA Accredited registers currently held for traumatology or other specialisms. Specialist Trauma therapy and Somatic coaching insurance is held.

More information can be found at my individual practice site HERE

Making sense of academic and vocational Standards: UK Standards England and Wales framework HERE

Scotland has a unique framework with different numbering HERE

Because I work in Scotland but also online in England and abroad, I have used the UK numbering, since this is what is used by UK wide professional bodies.

Some certification “badges” are no longer being “renewed” since the qualifications have been completed, and the CPD renewal requirements overlap with those of the main focus of the business –  trauma and loss, therefore the badges would merely require additional charges for no other gain. As part of reducing overheads and preventing the need for further price rises, we have chosen to become more selective in regard to “badge” costs. We intend to focus on trauma and neurodivergence badges and a few specific therapy models, dropping the other badges for related areas (depression, anxiety, grief) which are all covered within trauma and loss.

So what titles do I use? Generally “Clinical Psychotherapist”, which is the description on my NACHP accreditation statement, or “Psychoanalyst”, which describes a major part of my work. otherwise I tend to use “Multi Modal Clinical Psychotherapist”, which reflects the multiple models employed in my work. I tend not to use “life coach” since people often think of USA style motivational speakers. I also avoid “counsellor”, because although I use person centred counselling where appropriate, I tend to be more proactive and focused than that particular open model.

Above all else I try to combine Humanistic and Psychodynamic theory and their common area of philosophy from East and West, and employ them around research evidenced and NICE recommended treatment strategies.

Awards and Research

Until recently I have not entered information here, so sorry for the rather sparse details. I am building this section now (19.02.2022)

2001 Award from BMAA for outstanding contribution to society (Youth Scheme in child reduction using Martial Arts) . The team also received a commendation from the Cardiff Chief Constable for social contribution.

Previously Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (UK) For achievement I was awarded fellowship, and latterly additional recognition as a regional organiser of the Starbucks – RSA regional Challenge. Again now (2023) Fellow and supporter of RSA.

Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health. Recognition of my healthcare and psycho-education contribution.

Fellow of the Royal Scottish Society of Arts. Recognition for overall contribution.

As can be seen –  I am a Fellow of the NACHP, and previously a Fellow of the FHT, HS, CPS, NCIP, and ISPC (no longer in membership of these).

Research –  I do not widely mention this, since it is frankly not clinical and I think therapists who do rely on their academic research need to be more specific in their information and it’s application!
