Self image, self confidence, eating disorders
There are various reasons why people develop eating disorders, self esteem issues, self harm or other disorders. There is no one reason for any of them.
Typical factors are abuse, dissociation, control, rejection, bullying, self image and other issues that effect the self image of the individual.
Psychoanalysis, psychotherapy and self image
There are a number of factors that can effect self image.
1. Abuse. This is perhaps the most severe and comes in a wide range of versions. Psychological, sexual, physical, bullying. Remember it is not a competition. This “might” apply. You do not need to have experienced abuse to have issues.
2. Developmental. Your development may have been troublesome. Even the best parent(s) in the world can not protect kids from difficult experiences. This is a massive and wide ranging area.
3. Relationship. Have you had a difficult relationship? Each possible nasty relationship is different. There is codependency, passive aggression, direct aggression, sexual abuse, grooming, cult type behavior, subtle social constructivisim, and individual.
4. Control. Often control gets projected or introjected, results i a range of behaviours, from relationship issues to self harm.

Individual support
Therapy is very individual. Different types of trauma occur with different people, relationships, sexual preferences, social dynamics.
Self image is usually at the root of it, personal and deep. You will need a therapist who you can learn to trust.
